Qualified competent reflexologists are being sought by the public and health-care industry. Becoming certified through the ARCB (110 hours of training minimum), not only promotes the field of reflexology but establishes that certified reflexologists offer highly proficient skilled reflexology and not just a foot massage. A practicing reflexologist who currently teaches at massage schools in NYC and NJ teaches the class.

This introductory class is part of the Basic Foot Reflexology which is 22 instructional hours. This class introduces the student with basic history, definition, theories, and benefits of reflexology. Through hands-on guided practice, the students will learn classic finger and thumb techniques as well as warm-up and relaxation methods. The student will learn zone-walking, spinal and diaphragm-walking, pivot, and hook-in & back-up on the pituitary reflex. The use of good body mechanics and proper hands-on techniques are emphasized. The student will learn to locate the reflexes and zones on the feet and how they correspond to the entire body organs. They will begin to notice “stress” indicators on the feet that indicate to the reflexologist imbalance in the body. They will be able to add this to their massage session.

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Perform an introductory basic reflexology session.
  • Explain the basic history, theories, and benefits of reflexology.
  • Give a definition of reflexology.
  • Recognize contraindications for reflexology.
  • Address body mechanics for the client’s safety and their own safety.
  • To locate general foot reflex areas corresponding to the body.
  • Identify the 10-zones in the body and foot.
  • Recognize in the feet, sensitivity, areas with adhesions, puffiness, unusual color/rashes, injury, bruises, bunions, hammertoes, ingrown toenails, warts.
  • Demonstrate their scope of practice by not diagnosing or prescribing and refer to qualified health professionals when appropriate.
  • Do self-care exercises for the hand and wrist.
  • Identify reflexology organizations and know ARCB certification procedure.
